Why Work with an Art Advisor?

No space is complete without art. It’s what gives a place soul. Yet too often this part of interior design gets the least attention. The world of art — and the buying process — can seem overwhelming, even intimidating. Many people just don't know where to start or assume they will have to spend a lot of money for what they aren't even sure they want. And, let’s face it, some galleries don’t make it easy for the average buyer: stark white walls, little or no seating, an echoey space... it can be a tad off-putting for most.

Cue the art advisor. Working with an art advisor is like working with an interior designer focused entirely on your walls. Art advisors are always finding amazing artists. An art advisor can show you works you might not discover on your own. They seek out pieces that fit your aesthetic, your taste and your budget. They help you learn about the art so you make confident buying decisions. I personally love to see my clients really connect with a piece before buying it. This almost always results in long-term enjoyment, which to me is the best return on investment!

What To Think About Prior To Meeting with an Art Advisor

Prior to getting started with an art advisor, it’s important to determine your goals and your budget. How do you want the artwork to enhance your space? For instance, are you looking for a focal point in the room or something to inject color or texture? What mediums are you drawn to? Are you ready to invest in quality pieces or a combination of high end with more affordable works? These are the kinds of things that are discussed during the first meeting.

I’ll delve more into how to start collecting art for your space and what it’s like to work with me in the next blog post. Stay tuned!
